Canal de Bourgogne - from river Yonne to the Saône

Once this was the most important waterway between the Saône and the
Yonne, And for good reasons it is said to be one of the most beautiful canals of France.
As it is crossing the northerly part of Bourgogne the quality of food and wine is well understood. On the side of the Saône the canal can be quite busy but once passed the tunnel peace, nature and very beautiful landing-places are waiting for you.
There is hardly any professional traffic. From our base Tonnerre for instance you can make a return trip to Montbard in one week and in 2 weeks you can make a one way cruise to Châtillon en Bazois (Nivernais) but there are also other options possible. | |
