The Canal de l'Est is still being used by commercial traffic. In the southern part it follows, away from civilisation, the narrow valleys of the Vosges and then it crosses the industrial oriented plains at Nancy. After a short way on the Mosel the Canal de l’Est welcomes you again. Near Sedan it definitely leads into the Meuse which becomes the Maas at the Belgium border. It is a long and a beautiful waterway, especially in the northerly parts
