This bow propeller makes manoeuvre easier. Nevertheless you need to use it carefully mainly in canals (mud and stones can be sucked up along the canal sides). In case of breakdown during the cruise, it is often impossible to repair (a crane is often necessary to fix it). Steering a boat is not very difficult. The base staff will spend as much time as you need to teach you to steer and moor the boat.
If you do not have a licence to drive a boat, you will be given a temporary one to enable you to drive as long as you have booked the boat. That is called “carte de plaisance”.
